The present invention relates to Lactobacillus brevis F109-MD3 (accession NO. KACC91784P) strain which is isolated from kimchi and has an ability to produce gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA); to a food composition containing, as an active ingredient, at least one selected from the group consisting of the strain, a culture liquid thereof, a concentrate of the culture liquid, a dried product of the culture liquid, and a combination thereof; to a fermentation starter containing, as an active ingredient, at least one selected from the group consisting of the strain, a culture liquid thereof, a concentrate of the culture liquid, a dried product of the culture liquid, and a combination thereof; to a fermented food obtained by fermentation using the strain; and to a method for producing GABA using the strain.
