In the present invention, it is revealed that hexanedioic acid has an antibacterial activity or an antibacterial effect against Salmonella typhimurium by inhibiting growth and proliferation of the Salmonella typhimurium and inducing growth inhibition, and can be used as a composition for treating, alleviating, or preventing food poisoning or acute gastroenteritis induced by infection with the Salmonella typhimurium utilizing the same. The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for treating or preventing food poisoning or acute gastroenteritis induced by infection with the Salmonella typhimurium, a health food composition for preventing or alleviating the same, and a feed composition for preventing or alleviating the same, containing hexanedioic acid as an active ingredient. The pharmaceutical composition, the health food composition, and the feed composition in accordance with the present invention suppress growth and proliferation of the Salmonella typhimurium and inhibit survival of the same, thereby being useful as a bactericide for treating, alleviating, or preventing food poisoning or acute gastroenteritis induced by infection with the Salmonella typhimurium.
