The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising a Curcuma longa derived physiologically active material as an active ingredient for preventing and treating obesity. Dimethoxycurcumin and curcumin among diarlyheptanoid based compounds, which are Curcuma longa derived physiologically active material of the present invention, show excellent effects of inhibiting lipase, thus the Curcuma longa derived physiologically active material of the present invention can be usefully applied in preventing and treating obesity.
