METHOD FOR THE AUTOMATIC GRADING OF ABALONE BASED ON IMAGE PROCESSING TECHNOLOGY

The present invention relates to a method for automatically sorting abalones, wherein abalones having very high added value and preferred by people among shellfish can be automatically classified and sorted using an image processing device such as a vision system based on a computer and a CCD camera. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method for automatically sorting abalones using an image processing technology, comprising: photographing the front images and side images of abalones using two CCD cameras in the process of transferring the abalones using a transfer conveyor; measuring the total length (TL), body length (BL) and thickness (T) of the abalones by analyzing the corresponding images; calculating the volume of the abalones from the measured data by postulating the exterior shape of the abalones to be an oblate semiellipsoid, which is the half of a horizontally divided flat and round object; and deriving a formula for estimating the weight of the abalones using the calculated volume (Cv) and a linear regression analysis between an actual volume (Av) and a weight (W).
