Disclosed are a system which predicts the probability of a halo coronal mass ejection (CME) occurring and an operating method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the system includes: a database storing the probability of a halo CME occurring for respective sunspot group types; a calculation unit which calculates the amount of variation in the area of a sunspot group determined as an observation target; an identification unit identifying to which one of the sunspot group types the sunspot group determined as the observation target matches; and a processing unit which reads the probability of the halo CME occurrence corresponding to the identified type from the database and predicts the probability of the halo CME occurrence determined as the observation target.
