FIELD: oil and gas industry.SUBSTANCE: device comprises a hollow cylindrical case, which upper end is designed for sleeve connection while its lower end is designed for connection of a base plate of the wellhead assembly. Besides, the above hollow cylindrical case is made so that in it its inner part a pump rod can be passed, at that in the upper part of the hollow cylindrical case there is at least one fixer designed to fix the pump rod by its thickened part. At that the above sleeve is made to receive the fixer designed to remove the above sleeve and to seal the wellhead. The suggested wellhead sealing method doe shutdown of tripping operation for downhole pumping equipment contains the following stages whereat tripping operation is stropped, the pump rod is fixed by the wellhead sealing device, automatic pipe elevator with rod insertion from the pump rod is disconnected, the wellhead is sealed by installation of the fixer.EFFECT: invention provides reliable sealing of the wellhead at shutdown of tripping operation for downhole pumping equipment, reduced labour costs significantly for wellhead sealing at shutdown of tripping operation for downhole pumping equipment.9 cl, 1 dwg
