FIELD: chemistry.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of obtaining oxidation-resistant crosslinked ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and use in artificial body parts, including medical prostheses, containing or made from one or more said polymers. The method includes a step of mixing UHMWPE resin with a first amount of a first additive and a second amount of a second additive, consolidating the UHMWPE and subsequent crosslinking of the consolidated UHMWPE. The first additive is selected from a group consisting of phenolic antioxidants and hindered amines, and the second additive is selected from a group consisting of phosphorous additives, polyatomic alcohols, phenolic antioxidants, hindered amines, carotenoids, amino-acid-based additives, thiosynergists and acid antioxidants.
