The present invention relates to a process for the measurement of the circulating conveyor and, if appropriate, to increase the precision of concentricity of a machine tool as well as a for the carrying out the method of the machine tool designed. In the method, a during the operation of the machine tool rotating component with an optical measuring radiation is acted upon and from a measurement carried out with the measuring signals of the rotating component determined. The measurement is carried out in the case of the process as the interferometric distance measurement. By means of an automatic adjustment of the balancing weights within the chuck or of the main spindle of the machine tool, the signals can be immediately compensated for by means of suitable actuators. The method and the machine tool designed for the purpose to enable a monitoring and correction of signals with high accuracy during the machining of a workpiece. By this correction of the signals a higher accuracy is achieved.
