A method for energy consumption-based design of a multi-component technical installation, comprising the steps of: specifying a specification data record describing an electromechanical model of the installation incomplete with respect to at least one supplementary component, respectively determining a power profile for the time history of the consumed power for at least two possible implementations of the system with different, depending on the specification data set selected components as a function of component-specific parameters of each selected components and a predetermined usage profile that describes a time course of at least one load of the plant indicating load size, the consumption of electrical power influences, - determining the component to be supplemented as a function of the power profiles and at least one further component-specific parameter.
