The method involves determining a prior correction of thermoelastic effects by using a prior model (26) i.e. periodic predictive model, of variations of the thermoelastic effects on an orbital scale and an algorithm (25) for determining correction fed by programming data (41) of a space satellite prior to flight of the satellite. Control messages of a correction unit (30) are established for correcting the performance parameters of a telescope (1) based on the determined correction in the flight state, where the performance parameters comprise stability of a line of sight of the telescope. An independent claim is also included for a correction device for correcting thermoelastic effects on performance parameters of a telescope on board a space satellite.
