The invention relates to a method for modeling the migration of hydrocarbon fluids. The method may include the steps of decomposing, by use of a processor, a domain of a pool model to provide a first plurality of meshes having a permeability lower than a threshold value and a second plurality of meshes having a permeability greater than the threshold value. A first migration analysis may be performed to analyze a relatively slow migration starting in the first plurality of meshes. A second migration analysis may be performed to analyze a relatively faster migration starting in the second plurality of meshes.
