The subject of the invention is an opto-pyrotechnic initiator (1) comprising at least one pyrotechnic composition (2) or an explosive that can be initiated from a laser light pulse transmitted by an end of an optical fiber (4). This initiator is characterized in that the end of the optical fiber (4) is separated from the composition (2) or the explosive to be initiated by a separating element (9) which reduces the power transmitted by the fiber (4) . The invention also relates to an initiation device incorporating such an initiator.
