This assembly comprises at least one diffuser member (51) which comprises at least one plate (60, 70, 80) capable of vibrating under the effect of a physical stimulus, in particular of a sound stimulus, so as to emit a sound wave whose frequency is between 0.5 and 160,000 Hz. Furthermore, selective positioning means (90, 95) provide this set with different geometrical configurations with respect to the space in which it is placed. In this way, the acoustic signature of the space can be modified by varying these configurations. The invention also relates to the use of such an assembly and a method for modifying the acoustic properties of a space.
