The invention relates mainly to a method for correcting a model (M) for estimating a quantity of nitrogen oxides upstream of a catalytic reduction system (51) for a heat engine (3), characterized in that it comprises the following steps: - applying a first strategy (Strat_corr_1) for the default correction of the model (M) for estimating the quantity of nitrogen oxides, - detecting a drop in model inaccuracy ( M) estimating the amount of nitrogen oxides below a first extreme threshold value (S1), or increasing the inaccuracy of said model (M) beyond a second extreme threshold value (S2), and - apply a second correction strategy (Strat_corr_2) of the model (M) for estimating the amount of nitrogen oxides adapted to the correction of the extreme inaccuracy of the model (M). The invention also relates to the corresponding computer (8).
