The invention relates to an experimental device for Stirling cycle thermal machines operating as a motor, heat pump or cryogenic machine. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the experimental device will have two ducts doubled, one for the first additional regenerator (20) and the other for the second additional regenerator (60). In this way, with the valves (100) and (200), it is easy to pass the working fluid through the first additional regenerator (20) or through the cavity (12). Similarly, with the valves (300) and (400), it is easy to pass the working fluid through the second additional regenerator (60) or through the cavity (16). Different configurations are possible (Figure 7 to 10) that can each be tested according to the three possible uses (engine, heat pump and cryogenic machine).
