The lightning protection device comprising a lightning rod, which comprises a collector electrode with at least one free end, configured to pick up a lightning current and to discharge it into the earth, and ignition means (13; 33) enabling to promote the formation of an ascending tracer in the vicinity of the free end of the collecting electrode. It further comprises neutralization means (2; 32), which make it possible to reduce the space charge which has formed in the vicinity of the free end of the collecting electrode before the emission of an ascending tracer, and electronic control means (3) for automatically and sequentially controlling said neutralizing means (2; 32) and, secondly, said initiating means (13; 33) of the lightning conductor.
