A system and method for processing commingled plastic from municipal solid waste (MSW) to obtain oil/liquid fuel of consistent flash point by depolymerisation of plastic from the MSW wherein the system comprises a feed hopper 16, feeding screw 17, a reactor vessel 18 for heating the waste material under anaerobic conditions to produce a sludge and vapour, a heavy density separator 14 for separating the vapour into wax and simple compound vapours, a sludge screw conveyor 20 operationally connected to the reactor for removing the sludge from the reactor, a venturi scrubber 10 for cooling and condensing the simple compound vapours into oil, a distillation column for receiving the oil and separating the oil to collect a light fraction, and a system for feeding the waste through the feed hopper and feed screw into the reactor in a controlled manner. Ideally, the waste feed into the system is plastic which is pyrolysed in the reactor.
