The lighting system has a light source (14) with a light emitting diode. A heat sink (20) is arranged completely on a side of the light source that is opposite to the optical light conducting element (16). The light source, the optical light conducting element, proximal end (22) of the light conducting cable (24) and the heat sink are arranged in a common housing (12).
