Autonomous camera system for capturing sporting events

An autonomous camera system (1) is proposed for generating a video of a sporting event at a playing field (100). The system comprising at least one camera (11,12), such as a wide-angle camera, configured to capture at least a part of the playing field (100) and output a raw video stream (221,231) of the video captured playing field. A video analyzer (2)is configured to recognize and track an activity on the playing field (100) by analyzing the raw video stream (221,231) and to derive one or more parameters from the tracking of the activity to obtain parameter data (223,233). A parameter analyzer (3) is configured to filter the parameter data (223,233) based on one or more predefined computational rules (240) to obtain selection data indicative of one or more regions of interest on the playing field or in the raw video stream. The regions of interest may be used to control one or more controllable cameras (13,14) at the playing field (100) or generate a video summary (261).
