PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly accurately calculate travel resistance of a vehicle within a wide travel speed range of the vehicle.SOLUTION: The travel resistance calculation device acquires a time series data of vehicle speeds with respect to coasting travel lapse time when a vehicle coastingly travels on a same road surface according to a plurality of speed conditions with different travel speed ranges, the speed conditions being defined by an approach speed and a lower limit speed. Subsequently, the travel resistance calculation device calculates at least travel resistance of the vehicle from the time series data of the respective speed conditions by using a motion equation of the vehicle in which external force applied to the vehicle is represented by a function equation of the vehicle speeds. Then, the time series data of the vehicle speeds under all the speed conditions are fitted to a general solution of the vehicle speed of the motion equation, with a time shift quantity and a coefficient in the function equation defined as parameters whose values are unknown, the time shift quantity for shifting the coasting travel lapse time for collecting the time series data under the respective speed conditions into one time series data, so as to acquire the values of the parameters, thereby calculating the travel resistance.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
