PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a thermal spray coating, capable of surely forming a hole even when a projection length of a masking pin from a member to be thermally sprayed is long.SOLUTION: A method for forming a thermal spray coating comprises: a step a of preparing a member 1 to be thermally sprayed having a plurality of holes 3 on the surface; a step of preparing metal masking pins 5; a step b of inserting each masking pin 5 so as to project a part of the masking pin 5 from the surface; a step of applying an adhesive 7 of an ultraviolet curable type, etc., to at least either of the holes 3 or the masking pins 5 in order to fix the masking pins 5; a step c of forming a ceramic layer 9 consisting of a ceramic material, such as a Zr based material, by thermal spray in the state of fixing the masking pins 5 by the adhesive 7; and a step d of removing the masking pins 5.
