The present invention relates to a compound of formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, including valetin and its derivatives, for use as a medicament. The invention further relates to the same compounds for use in the treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress and the treatment of inflammatory diseases. Yet another aspect of the present invention is the use of valetin and its derivatives for the cosmetic treatment of skin aging.
