Disclosed herein is a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) capable of specifically recognizing tumor associated antigen (TAA) on multiple myeloma (MM) cells. Also disclosed are immune effector cells such as T cells or natural killer (NK) cells that have been genetically engineered to express these CARs. Accordingly, a method for providing anti-tumor immunity to a subject with MM is also disclosed, comprising adoptive transfer of immune effector cells of the present disclosure that have been genetically engineered to express the CAR of the present disclosure.
