PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and compositions for reducing the growth of microbial colonies including infections, as well as therapeutic compositions, methods for treating infections and methods for identifying such compositions.SOLUTION: Provided is a chimeric tail-associated muralytic enzyme (TAME) polypeptide comprising a muralytic domain (MD) and a heterologous cell binding domain (CBD) that binds to a target bacterium, where the target bacterium exhibits reduced or no growth after the contact with the chimeric TAME polypeptide. Also provided is a method for treating a bacterial infection of a subject in need of such a treatment comprising a step of administering a pharmaceutical composition comprising the chimeric TAME polypeptide to the subject.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1-1
