PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and compositions for reducing the growth of microbial colonies including infections, as well as therapeutic compositions, methods for treating infections and methods for identifying such compositions.;SOLUTION: Provided is a chimeric tail-associated muralytic enzyme (TAME) polypeptide comprising a muralytic domain (MD) and a heterologous cell binding domain (CBD) that binds to a target bacterium, where the target bacterium exhibits reduced or no growth after the contact with the chimeric TAME polypeptide.
