Systems and methods are shown for modulating a radiation beam such that the modulated beam exhibits a substantially zero residual amplitude modulation (RAM). Shown is an electro-optic modulator (300) comprising a waveguide (306), a first region coupled to the waveguide, and a second region coupled to the waveguide. The waveguide is designed to guide the radiation beam. The first potential (314a, 314b) applied to the first region causes a first modulation to the radiation beam, and the second potential (316a, 316b) applied to the second region is applied to the radiation beam. A second modulation is produced. The first modulation superimposed on the second modulation results in a substantially zero residual amplitude modulation of the radiation beam.
