PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate an optimal power flow (OPF) in a power network represented as a graph divided into virtual subgraphs.SOLUTION: Virtual subgraphs include at least one bus, respectively, and measure local variables and being associated with an agent for updating consensus variables (CV). The consensus variables of an adjacent virtual subgraph are exchanged and updated using the agent. Based on the CV and local variables, OPF problem is solved for the virtual subgraph by using the agent. Exchange and solution are repeated until the termination conditions are satisfied, and when the termination conditions are satisfied, an optimum OPF is outputted for each virtual subgraph.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1B
