PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine whether a discharge flow from a converter is based on slag or molten iron and/or steel, without deterioration of the detection accuracy even when there is a disturbance, like smoke.;SOLUTION: A converter discharge flow determination method comprises imaging a discharge flow from a converter 1 with a visible camera 8 and an infrared camera 7, calculating high-temperature pixel numbers A at temperatures of a preset temperature threshold value N or greater in a preset specified range for infrared images of the infrared camera 7, simultaneously calculating high brightness pixel numbers B for brightnesses of a preset brightness threshold value M or greater in a preset specified range for visible images of the visible camera 8, determining that the discharge flow is based on molten iron or steel when the image total number ratio difference, determined by subtracting the high-temperature pixel number ratio 'a' to the pixel number of the infrared images in the specified range from the high-brightness pixel number ration b to the pixel number of visible images in the specified range is equal to or greater than a specified vale x and that the discharge flow is based on slat when the image total number ratio is smaller than the specified value x.;SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3;COPYRIGHT: (C)2016,JPO&INPIT
