PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of treating drain capable of reducing percentage content of sulfide ion (S) and further COD material or BOD material efficiently and economically for drain generated in manufacturing polyarylene sulfide (PAS) in a predetermined range and reducing environmental load, and a manufacturing method of PAS making recovery and recycling a resin component in the drain easy.SOLUTION: There are provided a method of treating drain containing a sulfur-containing compound generated in a manufacturing process of PAS, which reduces Sconcentration in the drain after the treatment to 30 mg/L or less, preferably further COD material concentration to 3500 mg/L and/or BOD material concentration to 2500 mg/L or less by including a process of a wet oxidation treatment process of drain generated in a manufacturing process of PAS by polymerization reacting a sulfur source and dihaloaromatic compound in a solar organic solvent with heating, containing the sulfur-containing compound and mainly containing water under a condition of temperature of 130 to 320°C and pressure of 0.3 to 20 MPa, especially under alkali condition and further a solid liquid separation process and the manufacturing method of PAS.SELECTED DRAWING: None
