PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble binder resin for a nonaqueous secondary battery electrode, which can be obtained by a simple production method, and which is superior in the binding property for an electrode material.SOLUTION: A binder resin for a nonaqueous secondary battery electrode comprises: a polymer having at least a structural unit (A) expressed by the general formula (1) and a structural unit (B) expressed by the general formula (2). The polymer is obtained by producing a polymer having the structural unit (A) by aqueous solution polymerization and, then, hydrolyzing part of the structural unit (A). After the hydrolysis, the molecular weight (Mp) of the polymer is 300,000 to 10,000,000.SELECTED DRAWING: None
