PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a test solution capable of adding hydrogen of higher concentration exceeding hydrogen concentration in steel in a method using an ammonium thiocyanate, to a steel material in a short time, and capable of improving reproducibility of hydrogen addition and suppressing a pH change of the solution in a long-term test; and a hydrogen charge method or a hydrogen embrittlement test method using the solution.SOLUTION: The test solution for the hydrogen embrittlement of the steel material contains an acetic acid buffer solution and a thiocyanic acid ion and does not contain an ammonium ion. The hydrogen charge method includes a step of increasing hydrogen concentration in a test material by immersing the steel material, which is the test material, in a solution obtained by adjusting the hydrogen embrittlement test solution with use of the acetic acid so as to have a pH of 4.0 or higher and 5.5 or lower before the test is started. The hydrogen embrittlement test method includes a step of charging hydrogen to the test material by the charging method to evaluate a hydrogen embrittlement characteristic of the test material.SELECTED DRAWING: None
