Thinning resistant ceramic matrix composites and environmental coatings

The present disclosure generally relates to a thinning resistant gas turbine engine article comprising a silicon-containing substrate, and related coatings and methods. The present disclosure is particularly directed to engine articles comprising a silicon substrate that is coated with a chemically stable porous oxide layer. The present disclosure also comprises a substrate and a top bond coat comprising a bi-phase layer made of interconnected silicon and interconnected oxide, and a subsequent layer made of silicon. Also related to goods. The present disclosure provides a silicon-containing substrate in an embodiment in which the components of the silicon-containing substrate are interconnected with oxides dispersed in the substrate to form a majority of the thinning resistant silicon-containing article.
