A novel single-sided tissue repair device such as a patch is disclosed. The apparatus has a base member having an opening through the base member and a closure member associated with the opening. The mesh has a bioabsorbable polymer adhesion barrier that is attached around the periphery of the bottom surface of the base member to form a pocket that is accessible through the opening. The mesh may be used for hernia repair and other repairs of body wall defects in open surgical procedures.
