PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for determining the direction of an edge with high precision.SOLUTION: The edge direction determination device for determining the direction of an edge at a remark point of image includes setting means for setting n blocks of the same size regions on a straight line passing through the remark point for each of a plurality of directions which are the candidates of the edge direction, and determination means for calculating the similarity of images between n blocks set by the setting means for each of a plurality of directions, and determining the direction of highest similarity as the edge direction at the remark point. The setting means controls the size of a block depending on the angle for a predetermined direction that is a candidate of the edge direction.
