PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drowsiness detection method and drowsiness detector having a high real-time drowsiness detection performance, being easily mounted on a vehicle and further highly accurately detecting drowsiness of a driver.SOLUTION: The drowsiness detection method and drowsiness detector include: acquiring RRI (RR Interval) data or intervals of adjacent R waves in an electrocardiographic waveform when a driver awakens; constructing a data set for HRV (Heart Rate Variation) analysis for analyzing heart rate variations on the basis of the acquired RRI data; calculating an HRV index of each data set to acquire awakening-time HRV index data; and constructing a drowsiness detection model for each driver using a multivariate statistical process control (MSPC) on the basis of a standardized awakening-time HRV index data.
