PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which allows multistage detection of a remaining amount of a roll paper by a lower-cost structure as compared with a conventional one by diverting a paper feed mechanism.;SOLUTION: A printer includes: a paper feed roller 11 which moves between a paper feed position of abutting on an outer circumference of a roll paper 2 and driving paper in a paper feed direction in feeding paper and a standby position separating from the outer circumference of the roll paper 2; a core shaft 3 which is inserted in a hollow hole of the roll paper 2 and energizes the roll paper 2 in a direction of the paper feed roller; a separating member 17 which moves to an abutting position of abutting on the roll paper 2 and a retreating position in which the separating member 17 does not abut on the roll paper 2 by interlocking with movement of the paper feed roller 11, and separates a tip of the roll paper 2 in the abutting position; a movement amount detecting means 21 which detects the movement amount of the separating member 17; and a calculating means which calculates the remaining amount of the roll paper 2 based on a detection result of the movement amount detecting means 21.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
