The present invention provides a reagent for predicting the risk of onset of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the reagent containing a polynucleotide able to detect minor alleles in a genetic polymorphism present in the gene region DEP Domain Containing 5 (DEPDC5), the genetic polymorphism being A) a genetic polymorphism (TG) at base position 501 in the nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID: 1; B) a genetic polymorphism (TC) at base position 501 in the nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID: 2; and/or C) a genetic polymorphism (GC) at base position 501 in the nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID: 3 (where the expression in parentheses indicates the condition "major allele minor allele").
