Diagnosing/prognosing a septic syndrome from a patient sample comprising extracting biological material (A) from the sample; treating (A) with at least one reagent (R) that is specific for a target gene (TG) having nucleic acid sequences (1)-(28) (reproduced) and determining expression of at least one TG, is new. An independent claim is included for a kit for the new process containing at least one hybridization probe for the specified TG.
