PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a free-cutting stainless steel rod wire having satisfactory producibility, and capable of obtaining excellent surface accuracy (surface roughness) and excellent tool wear resistance and corrosion resistance.;SOLUTION: A free-cutting martensitic stainless steel rod wire includes, by mass, ≤0.40% C, ≤1.0% Si, ≤2.0% Mn, 0.02 to 0.10% P, 0.15 to 0.50% S, 10.0 to 17.0% Cr, ≤2.0% Ni, 0.005 to 0.10% N and 0.001 to 0.010% B, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and includes intermetallic compounds including B and N and in which the maximum grain size is 0.1 to 10.0 μm.
