The method involves moving a piston in one direction of travel using speed-regulating control. The torque is recorded during movement of the piston in one direction of travel. The flow rate of pumped liquid or pasty product is obtained using a torque-regulating control, when pressure pulses are reduced during pump operation. The movement of a drive unit is accelerated after the direction of travel is reversed. An independent claim is included for device for controlling drive unit connected to reciprocating linear-motion double-acting pump.
