PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily detecting the larvae of Mytilus galloprovincialis, Perna viridis and Mytilus trossulus as marine bivalves, and to provide a method for quantifying the population thereof. PSOLUTION: The method for quantifying the population in a test sample of the larvae of a marine bivalve includes the following procedure: the test sample is subjected to PCR using one or more sets of pairs of primers among (1) a pair of primers for detecting Mytilus galloprovincialis, (2) a pair of primers for detecting Perna viridis and (3) a pair of primers for detecting Mytilus trossulus, wherein each of the pairs of primers includes an oligonucleotide comprising a specific base sequence; and, based on the gene-amplified level in the PCR, each of a plurality of samples where the population of the larvae of marine bivalve of a kind corresponding to the pairs of primers is known is subjected to PCR using the pair(s) of primers, thus examining the relationship between the populations of the larvae of marine bivalves and the gene-amplified levels; and, using a calibration curve prepared in advance, the population in the test sample of the larvae of marine bivalve of the kind corresponding to the pair(s) of primers is quantified.
