A method of link adaptation in a telecommunications system including determining a first modulation and coding scheme for a communication of a transmitting terminal with a first receiving terminal, which optimizes a function of interest, for a second receiving terminal, determining a second modulation and coding scheme that optimizes the function of interest when the communication from the transmitting terminal is handed over from the first receiving terminal to the second receiving terminal while being subject to a second interference due to at least one communication that uses the same transmission resources; selecting, from among the first receiving terminal and at least one second receiving terminal, the receiving terminal to optimize the function of interest.
