seed sensor, seed sensor set, planter and seed monitor set, tube set, and method. A seed sensing system is described which determines the position of the seed relative to the seed tube as the seed passes the sensor. Seed position as well as planter speed and seed tube placement above the planting ditch are used to calculate the seed trajectory to the ditch from which seed spacing is predicted. By detecting seed both in the x and y direction in the seed tube, the sensor can better determine multiple seeds as well as provide more accuracy for the seed population.
