The present invention relates to material which is useful in cell culture and transfer and also as a cell supplier. The material comprises plant cellulose nanofibers or derivatives thereof, the cellulose nanofibers being in the form of a hydrogel or a membrane. The invention also provides methods for producing these materials and compositions and their uses.
