BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The invention relates to a dimensional calibration of an exact masonry fitting (1), preferably a ceramic fitting (1) having two machined opposing mating surfaces (2, 2 '), two opposing mating surfaces (3, 3') and two opposing faces ( 4, 4 '). In order to calibrate the dimensions of the fittings (1) and to compensate for the production dimensional deviations, a calibration layer (5) of silicate-based semi-solid material (9), preferably lime-cement or other plaster, is applied to at least one face (4, 4 '), which after application hardens. The thickness (.DELTA.t.sub.in) of the calibration layer (5) is adjustable and corresponds to the difference between the desired desired calibrated distance (R.sub.vn) and the nominal distance (R.sub.in.) of the surface of each fitting. (1). The calibration is preferably carried out by means of an application means (8) on a series of fittings (1) moving on the conveyor (6). After curing of the calibration layer (5), the fittings (1) are dimensionally unified on the faces (4, 4 ') and only a thin layer of plaster is needed for finishing work on the facade or on the internal plaster. The method of calibration according to the invention is inexpensive and suitable for belt production of ceramic, concrete, porous concrete, foam silicate, gas concrete, insulation and other fittings (1).
