The proposed process for preparing composite sorbent based on hydrated iron trioxide is characterized in that in the following steps hydrated iron trioxide is impregnated into a carrier based on macroporous, slightly basic anion exchange resin: first, a dried macroporous, slightly basic anion exchange resin is converted by the action of a hydrochloric acid solution to a hydrochloride form and subsequently it is put into an ethanol solution containing iron perchloride. The thus obtained mixture is then agitated in an agitator for a period of one hour. Then, the swollen beads of the anion exchange resin are filtered off and dried. The dry beads of the anion exchange resin are then put into ammonia solution, which is agitated by means of a shaft agitator for a period of one hour. After filtering-off, the so prepared sorbent is washed by demineralized water until complete removal of ammonia. Subsequently, sorbent conditioning with a solution of hydrochloric acid of pH value 3 takes place wherein the hydrochloric acid solution is recycled by the sorbent under specific column load 4 V/Vi0∙h-1 until stabilization of pH value 3 at the column outlet is achieved.
