Disclosed is a composition comprising scyrpusin A and scyrpusin B, and its ability to prevent the development of obesity. Methods of inhibiting adipogenesis are also disclosed using a composition comprising Scyrpusin A and Scyrpusin B. The present invention also discloses methods of influencing obesity in mammals, using a Composition comprising Scyrpusin A and Scyrpusin B. In addition, the present invention also relates to a method for producing compositions including A. scyrpusin A and scyrpusin B and B. piceatannol and its dimer Scyrpusin A and scyrpusin B, by fractionation of the rhizomes of Cyperus rotundus, with control of biological activity.
