A CHEAP AND SIMPLE DEVICE FOR FILTRATION OF WATER ON DOMESTIC SCALE

for filtration of Water, large scale processes are not suitable on domestic scale, due to intricacies involved in their construction. Again, candle filter used on domestic scale is beyond the reach of poor and common mass due to its cost. The invented device for filtration of Hater on domestic scale is simple and cheap. It consists of two simple domestic containers, one for unfiltered water, placed at a higher level using a stand and another for collection of filtered water, placed on ground level. Filter media is easy to make from fine cloth by rolling into the form of a tube which is easy and safe to clean compared to candle. Siphon principle is utilised for transfer of water from upper container to lower container, via filter media, the top end of which is dipped into unfiltered water and bottom end placed in lower container for collection of filtered water. Unlike gravity transfer of water as used in candle filters, Siphon transfer lessens the chances of contaminants being carried along with water which in turn minimises the frequency of clogging of the filter media.
