A reluctance-Hall Effect based angle sensor, and its details are disclosed. The proposed sensor uses two ring-shaped magnetic sheets (placed in parallel) and a permanent magnet as the main sensing parts. These rings and magnet rotate along with the rotating target, whose angle needs to be measured. The magnet generates a special pattern of flux density that varies as a function of the sensing angle between the ring-shaped sheets. Two fixed Hall-Effect sensors are used to measure the field in the air-gap between the rings. Finite element analysis conducted on a model of the proposed sensor showed that the output of the Hall sensors vary as a cubic function of angle. A linear angle transducer is realized from these non-linear Hall sensor outputs with the help of a Linearizing Digital Converter (LDC) circuit. It provides a linear, direct-digital output with respect to angle. FIG. 1
