A process for the preparation of anticancer dammarene triterpenoid 1, comprising the steps of drying the seed coat of the seeds of Borassus flabellifer L. and powdering the same, dissolving the powder in a solvent followed by refluxing the same to obtain an extract of the seed coat in the solvent and evaporation of the solvent to obtain a crude extract, subjecting said crude extract to fractionation using n-hexane to ethyl-acetate solvent system, to obtain dammarene triterpenoid 1 in a bioactive fraction.
